Upcoming Horror Games of 2019

Updated: May 17, 2019

I haven't played too many survival horror games. Some survival horror games I have played included: Silent Hill, Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Dead Space, Alone in the Dark, The Last of Us, and Parasite Eve. I've played other horror games, such as BloodRayne 1 and 2, Darksiders, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Dante's Inferno, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. I want to try the old Doom games, Resident Evil, and I want to play Metro Exodus.

Many of the games coming out this year for horror, I'm not too familiar with. Resident Evil 2 is getting remade again. It's being updated for 4K graphics on the PS4, with the controls being modernized as well. I've always wondered why the first Resident Evil never got remade. Was it horrible or something? Let me know if anyone has played it or can give some player feedback about why they prefer the newer games over the original installment.

Days Gone is a survival horror game focusing on zombies. You play as a bounty-hunter named Deacon who is looking for a reason to live whilst everything has fallen apart. "Days Gone has been out there in various game play demo forms since E3 2016 (showing the hordes of zombies and the active weather and day/night cycles affecting game play) and has gone through its fair share of setbacks since then, being pushed back to an April 2019 release while the developers polish things up." (Edge, 2019).

Visage is a first person psychological horror game that is set in an ever changing house with twists and puzzles. The game also features a sanity meter, which seems creepy. I wonder what happens if it fills up? Many believe the game is a spiritual sequel to P.T. because of its atmosphere and gorgeous visuals.

Dark Pictures Anthology: The Man of Medan is an interactive story that takes place on a ghost ship after a diving expedition has gone wrong. "Set in the South Pacific, a group of four young Americans and their boat's captain stumble upon a World War II vessel and decide to investigate it. They don't like what they find, but end up being trapped on the vessel due to a storm. They need to figure out how to escape before the boat's occupants cut them down" (Game Informer staff, 2019).

The Sinking City is a game I am looking forward to. H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors of horror. The game will be set in Oakmont, Massachusetts, in the 1920's. The world will be viewed through the eyes of investigator Charles W. Reed. "Players must figure out why the entire city is going mad. We all know the answer has something to do with Cthulhu, but Reed doesn't, and you're going to need to help him keep his sanity as he explores an open world that is flooding. Much like the Sherlock Holmes games, you'll be interrogating people and studying the environment to find clues. The game also features combat and action sequences" (Game Informer Staff, 2019).

Someday You'll Return seems like another interesting game. It's about a distressed father looking for his daughter who ran off into the woods. Players will be able to craft, solve puzzles, utilize stealth, and have a karma system. Of course the forest is swarming with malevolent beings causing chaos for the main character.

Are there any upcoming horror games that your excited about? What are some of your favorite titles? Let me know in the comments and feel free to join the site.
