As many of you horror fans may know, most of the movies that are upcoming are remakes such as the IT Chapter Two release. Any movie that hasn't had a trailer released yet, I'll be posting the links to the trailers as they come out. Keep an eye out for them!
There are loads of other movies that have either been released already or will be later this year. Brightburn comes out later this month, it's about a boy that crash lands from another planet onto Earth. It seems to be a darker superhero tale that ask the question what if Superman was evil? Here's the link to the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6eB0JT1DI4 It seems like an interesting take on a super-villain concept and appears unique in the way its presented.
Ma is another movie that will be released later this month, it's about a lonely woman that allows local teenagers to party in her basement. However, something soon appears off with the woman Ma. It's a little like Misery, Scream, and Obsessed all in one from the preview. Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIvbEC8N3cA
I already wrote about the new Child's Play Remake, it comes out next month. Look for the full story on the creepy section. Link to the preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFy8ZgLd574
Annabelle Comes Home comes out later next month June 28, it seems to be about the Warren's daughter and her friends convincing her to let them see the locked room of cursed objects. Annabelle is released and causes chaos. I can honestly say I have been waiting for this since The Conjuring, when their daughter sees a woman holding Annabelle in the rocking chair while her parents were away. The New Mutants will be released August 2, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a darker spin on the X-Men universe that follows five young mutants that are contained in a sinister facility.
It seems interesting so I might give this a chance, it's definitely different from the other movies in the franchise. Here's the link to view the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu9e410C__I
Midsommar will be released August 9. It's about a young woman who joins her boyfriend and his friends for a summer trip. His group seems to lead her to a cult, which he claims is a 90 day festival. It seems pretty creepy, reminds me of the Wicker Man. View it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0UWIya-O0s
Crawl releases August 23. It's about a young woman that tries to save her father from a category five hurricane and ends up being trapped in a flooding house. She must learn to survive and maybe even fight off some alligators. The trailer reminds me of Deep Blue Sea. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6MLJG0RdDE
Are You Afraid of the Dark? comes to theaters October 11. This is another movie I'm excited for, I grew up with the show and some episodes were terrifying. Nothing has been said about the plot of the story yet. However, the show centered around a group of teenagers that would tell scary stories around a campfire. Supposedly there will be a mini-series that will lead to the actual movie. No trailer exists yet, but there are plenty of people talking about it and the movie has been confirmed. Maybe we'll see one released soon for the mini-series and where to see it.
Doctor Sleep is another Stephen King book adaptation. I'm actually excited about this one too since the book was amazing. It will hopefully be released on November 11. The is a follow-up of the Shining. It's about Danny Torrance and his struggle with alcoholism. He works at a care home where he utilizes his psychic abilities to to ease patients to death. He meets a girl with similar abilities to him, but she's being threatened by a cult. There's no trailer yet, but here's a link to the interview with Ewan McGregor about working as Danny Torrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHcelkt8jdQ
The Lodge releases sometime this year, there's not date yet. The movie is about a journey into paranoia where it will keep the audience guessing which character is trustworthy and which one is destroying the sanity of those around them. A family goes to the mountains for the holidays, however the father leaves the kids alone with the stepmother. The kids don't trust her and feel something is wrong with Grace. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Ltg-wv714
Little Monsters will be released sometime this year. It's a zombie movie about a group of kindergarten children and their teacher on a field trip to the zoo. It kind of seems like a comedy horror mix, which isn't always a bad thing. Shaun of the Dead was pretty well done, so this might be an interesting story. Especially if the animals are infected as well, I'm looking forward to this movie. There's no trailer for the movie yet, hopefully one will be released soon.
The Nightingale is set to be released this year. It takes place in 1820's colonial Tasmania. It's about a woman who is held captive by a man who is a part of a group to eradicate the indigenous population. The movie is about revenge and retribution. No trailer exists yet for this film. The creator of the Babadook will be making this movie, so it might have a similar feel.
Relive comes out sometime this year. The movie is about a police officer that must solve the murders of his family...in the past. The brief plot summary seems like Looper or something like it. There's no trailer currently, I'll post one as soon as I know about it with more details.
Sweetheart is another movie with little information and no date currently set except that it should be out sometime later this year. It's a monster movie set on an island with a female lead character who has been marooned. She not only has to worry about the predators in the water but also what she shares the island with. Seems like a great movie and one I can't wait to see more of. I'll post more info as more becomes available.
The Lighthouse is a modern-day ghost story that should be out sometime this year, but little is known.
The movie will be shot in black and white and is a part of New England folklore. I'm curious to know more since New England is my home and I know a lot of the stories. I'll be keeping track of this one and post updates as soon as more information is released.
Grudge is coming back to theaters and I couldn't be happier. I'm a huge fan of the Japanese horror movie. The Ring stills scares that hell out of me to this day. Cannot wait to see this remake. The man who made the first Ju-On movie will be making this one although that has been rumored. Here's a link to a Youtuber talking about who is going to be in the movie and some extra information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU3zvYDUdsA
A Quiet Place 2 is set to be released sometime this year. I actually liked the first one, I found the plot creepy and it was an interesting take on a silent film...well just about silent film. Not much is known about the movie so far. I won't spoil the first one for you, I'll post a trailer when one is released.
The last movie that will be coming out is the IT Chapter 2 installment. I'm going to say I'm not that excited about this. I read the book and watched the original TV film. I went to the movies immediately when the new IT movie was released with high hopes. I was very excited to see the movie because I wanted a more modern looking take of the book than the TV version. I was greatly disappointed with the movie. Spoilers await, so if you haven't watched the movies or read the book stop here. This is just my opinion of the movie, I know the reviews were very good. Post what you thought about the movie in the comments and if there was anything that could have made it better or if it's fine the way it is. Let me know what your hopes are for the next installment below.
In the book and the original movie, Georgie dies. There's a funeral and everything, yet in the new movie he's "missing". On top of that, the Pennywise shifted based on the individual fears of its victims. There was none of that in the new movie, except small hints. At least in the original it showed those individual fears and truly terrified me when I was a child. I didn't find the new movie scary at all, sure some jump scares but nothing truly terrifying. I didn't like the outfit or the concept of "floating", it wasn't scary enough for me. In the original film what made Pennywise scary was the innocent aspect of the character. He looked like a normal clown and he made jokes like a typical clown. Just when you thought he was an average clown, the teeth and claws came out. I just wish they kept with the shifting aspect of Pennywise instead of keeping him as a clown for the majority of the movie. I'm probably going to wait on seeing the next installment and see it at a later time. I'm hoping it will improve but I don't see it happening. The book will always be better, but it seems like the TV version was closer to the book than the new movie. This is just my opinion and I will admit there were some scenes in the TV version that could've been done better. However, it was a TV movie instead of a Hollywood movie and made in the 80's. I've always wanted to know what Pennywise was like before the Losers club, like a little backstory of Pennywise. For instance, how much did he change over the years? Why did he choose a clown when not everyone was afraid of them?
